OHIO TOPS DAYTON SOFTBALL

Game One Box | Game Two Box

ATHENS, Ohio – The University of Dayton softball team (19-26) was swept by the Ohio Bobcats (21-24) on Tuesday at Ohio Softball Field. Dayton lost game one 10-7 and game two 15-8.

Redshirt freshman Jordan Jennings had a home run and four RBI for the Flyers. Senior Lauren Nacke had a three-run home run. Junior Kathleen Maloof hit .333 and had two RBI. Freshman Tiffany Ricks and sophomore Dana Trotta also had home runs for UD.  Senior Brandy Brown and sophomore Natalie Mariano hit .429, while junior Leah Sitter was 2-for-3 with a double.

Freshman Kayla English (9-8) was dealt the loss in game one. English pitched 4.2 innings and had six strikeouts while allowing three earned runs. Junior Sydney Cicchetti pitched 0.2 innings of relief and had one strikeout. Sophomore Alysha Isaacson pitched 0.2 innings of relief and fanned two of three batters she faced.

Senior Sarah Wedel (5-5) was the pitcher of record in game two. Alysha Isaacson pitched 5.2 innings of relief and had two strikeouts.

Dayton opened the scoring in the first inning of game one on Nacke’s three-run blast.

The Bobcats charged back to even the game at three apiece on Lauren Gellerman’s three-run home run in the bottom half of the first inning.

Trotta homered in the top of the second inning and Maloof drove home another run in the top of the second inning to put Dayton ahead 5-3.

Brown singled in the fourth inning allowing Leah Sitter to reach third base. Sitter then was able to come home after OU’s left fielder committed an error.

Ahead 6-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Bobcats strung together a pair of runs to pull within one of Dayton. Ohio combined for five additional runs in the fifth and the sixth inning.

Ricks uncorked UD’s third home run of the game to cut the deficit to three, 10-7, but the Flyers were unable to generate enough offense to complete the comeback.

The Bobcats got off to a quick start in game two, but the Flyers fought back scoring six runs in the top of the third to pull UD within striking distance, 10-6. In the third inning, Maloof drove home Rachel Archer. Sophomore Kasi Vazquez and Ricks were walked bringing home Dayton’s second and third runs of the inning. Senior Courtney Kutsulis scored on a wild pitch, and Jennings had a two-run single to end the six-run frame for the Flyers.

Alexis Joseph drove home Brooke Morgart in the bottom of the fourth, extending the Bobcat lead to 11-6.

Jennings hammered a two-run home run in the top of the fifth inning, but Ohio’s Raven King answered with a three-run homer in the bottom half of the inning to extend OU’s lead to 14-8. Ohio added one more run in the sixth inning.

Dayton returns to UD Softball Stadium for its final regular season home games this weekend. The Flyers will face Fordham on Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28. Dayton will also host La Salle for Senior Day on Sunday, April 29.
