DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton softball program is hosting a Youth Skills Camp on June 11-12 for kids grades 1-8 and an Advanced Skills Camp on July 24-25 for grades 9-12.
The All Skills session of the Youth Skills Camp will be on Monday, June 11 from 9 a.m. to Noon. Campers will receive detailed instruction on throwing technique, proper fielding and position play. Campers will also receive extensive hitting instruction by the Flyer coaching staff and players. Instruction will be given in hitting mechanics, hitting to all fields, bunting and short game strategy. A mental game session will also be included. The fee for this session is $50.
Tuesday, June 12 will be the pitching and catching session of the Youth Skills Camp. The pitching /catching camp runs from 10 a.m. to Noon. Pitchers will learn basic pitching skills and will engage in numerous drills to implement correct mechanics, increase accuracy and speed. This session is recommended for players who have less than 3 years of pitching experience. The catchers will be focused on developing beginning catching skills. Emphasis is placed on proper catching techniques, including proper positioning, throwing, framing and blocking. The fee for the pitcher or catcher session is $50.
The Advanced Skills Camp will begin on Tuesday, July 24 with the Advanced Pitching / Catching session running from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Pitchers will be instructed on proper mechanics, increasing velocity, troubleshooting, and proper care of the shoulder. Players will learn drills designed to improve proper pitching form. Drill work and instruction on throwing specialized movement pitches, as well as mental aspect of pitching, will be stressed. This session is recommended for players with at least 3 years of pitching experience. The advanced catcher session is designed to develop proper catching techniques, along with developing an understanding of pitch-calling strategy, game management and team management. The fee for the pitcher or catcher session is $50.
The Advanced Skills Camp will conclude on Wednesday, July 25 with the Advanced All Skills session. Campers will receive detailed instruction on throwing technique, proper fielding and position play. Campers will also receive extensive hitting instruction by the Flyer coaching staff and players. Instruction will be given in hitting mechanics, at-bat approach and elite game strategy. A mental game session will also be conducted. The fee for the Advanced All Skills session is $75 and includes lunch.
