WOMEN'S TENNIS IMPROVES ON FINAL DAY OF BGSU INVITATIONAL

Sept. 17, 2006

After struggling in singles on Saturday at the Bowling Green Invitational, the Flyers were victorious in four of their seven matches in the singles draws on Sunday. Senior Kate Mellion left Bowling Green on a high note, recording a singles win and a doubles win in her final two matches of the day.

Mellion and junior Allysa Detroy entered Sunday in the semifinal match of the Flight 1 doubles draw. However, an 8-6 loss to Sarah Galon and Morgan Ungernott of Cleveland State sent the UD duo to the third place match. An 8-5 defeat of Courtney/Duoro of Xavier clinched third place for the pair.

In singles, Mellion gutted out a third set tiebreaker in the backdraw of the Flight 1 singles draw to defeat Gina Peretti of Youngstown State in her only singles match of the day.

Junior Megan Gray, and sophomores Nikki Dzubay and Mackenzie Hoops also tallied one singles win a piece for UD on Sunday. Senior Kara Metzger and sophomore Carrie Trigilio also had an 8-5 win at #3 doubles over the duo of Hemlepp/Berry of Akron.

Invitational host Bowling Green led all participants in first place finishes, winning four of the eleven total flights.

Dayton next takes the courts on September 29 in Muncie, IN to kick off the Ball State Invitational.
