Led by a pair freshman, the Flyers turned in a successful showing on the first day of the Ball State Invitational on Friday. Newcomers Loni Dickerhoof and Emily Buerschen were both 2-0 in singles matches, and Dickerhoof was also unblemished in doubles. Overall, Dayton was 8-6 in singles and 5-2 in doubles on day one.

Dickerhoof's early-season success in the No. 1 spot continued Friday in the Flight A singles division. In her first match, she defeated Wright State's Karina Presti 6-2, 7-6. Dickerhoof's second win was also in straight sets, a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Ball State's Hanna Oman to reach Saturday's semifinal match against Molly Casperson of Butler.

Buerschen's wins came in Flight E singles, where she topped Bradley's Kate Panawash and IPFW's Rafala Hadba.

Also tallying singles wins for UD were sophomores Laina Grote and Chelsea Gray, junior Molly Mathews, and senior Nikki Dzubay who will play in the Flight B quarterfinals on Saturday.

In doubles, Dickerhoof and Glankler paired up in Flight B for a pair of easy victories. They posted an 8-1 victory over Peretsky and Monica Capozziello of Wright State before downing Sammi Schoen and Ashley Schoneman of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 8-2.

Dzubay and O'Connell won their lone match in Flight A doubles on Friday, while two other UD pairings went 1-1.

The Ball State Invitational will conclude on Saturday.
