In those meets UD was led with strong performances by sprinter Lauren McCormick and throwers Mallory Barnes and Molly McCarty.
In the 55 meter dash, McCormick sits in fourth among the A-10's sprinters. Her best run of the season came at the ONU Friday Night Series finishing with a time of 7.12.
Among those Flyers in the top of the conference is freshman Ashley Cattran, who is ranked in the top 10 in the 400 meter dash and 500 meter run. In the 500 meter she is ranked seventh with a time of 1:16.81 and in the 400 meter, she sits in the sixth spot with a time of 57.53.
"Our sprinters have traditionally been a strong group at the A-10 meet," said head coach Adam Steinwachs. "Lauren McCormick and Brittany Thomas will be key athletes for us at the meet this weekend."
Dayton looks poised to make a run at a number of crowns in the field events. On February 1, Flyer rookie Mallory Barnes made UD history when she threw 56-10.00 in the weight throw at the DePauw Invite for a new record. That throw ranks her third in the A-10 trailing a pair of Rhode Island throwers and helped her garner Conference Rookie of the Week honors.
"We have the ability to be the most successful at the two throwing events," said Steinwachs. "Mallory Barnes and Molly McCarty are high on the weight throw performance list and Johnna Zaccari and Sarah Allen are first and second in the shot put, I look for them to be major contributors."
McCarty has been competitive in the throws all season, and is just behind Barnes in the weight throw. Her season best toss was 54-10.00 and places her in the top five distances in the league.
UD has three athletes in the top four for the shot put. Freshman Zaccari leads the pack with a distance of 46-10.00; however Allen is just behind her with top toss of 45-07.00. Barnes joins the list at fourth in the conference with a distance of 41-04.25.
In the jumps, junior Amy Kremer ranks second among all conference high jumpers, an event she won in 2006. After last season, she looks to improve on a second place finish at the indoor championship where she also garnered Atlantic 10 Second Team All-Conference honors. This season she has leapt to her highest of the year at 5-6.00. She is joined by senior Megan Sweeney who is in the fourth spot with a season-best mark of 5-05.75 recorded at DePauw.
"The A-10 is a well known, established conference that produces NCAA caliber athletes year in and out," said Steinwachs. "It is a well balanced conference that creates a challenging environment to coach and compete in. Our goal is to reach the top four this weekend, improving upon last year's sixth place finish."
Results for Saturday's meet will be available at www.DaytonFlyers.com proceeding the event.
