TRACK TAKES FOURTH AT EARLY BIRDS

CINCINNATI - The University of Dayton women’s track and field team placed fourth out of 15 teams (67 pts.) at the 2012 Early Bird Relays hosted by the University of Cincinnati at Gettler Stadium on Saturday.

“Our ladies picked up where we left off in the indoor season,” said University of Dayton Track and Field Head Coach Jason Francis. “It was a good meet for us to shake off the rust and get back into competition.”

Sophomore Aly Weeman placed second and posted the fourth-best distance in Dayton hammer throw history. Weeman had a throw of 164-11 (50.26m). Senior Renee Otte posted the fifth-best distance in the hammer with a mark of 159-07 (48.64m). Otte place fourth in the hammer throw.

Lindsey Cummings placed first in the steeplechase. Cummings’ time of 11:01.48 was 17 seconds faster than the second and third place competitors in the event.

Juliana Lawniczak tied for first in the high jump on Saturday. Lawniczak’s height of 5-02.25 (1.58m) tied UC’s Dominque Best and Dayton’s Hilary Lang for top honors in the event. Katy Garcia finished fourth with a mark of 5-00.25 (1.53m).

Freshman Rabecca Maj posted the fourth-best 100 meter hurdle time in Flyer history. Maj placed fifth  in the event with a time of 15.04. Maddi Schmidt was sixth with a time of 15.13.

Kelly Johnston took third with a time of 4:39.89 in the 1500 meter run. Nicole Cargill was fourth, clocking in at 4:40.72. Kassy Thomas placed fourth in the 800 meters on Saturday. Thomas finished in 2:18.44.

Sarah Reynolds finished fourth in the 5,000 meters. Reynolds had a time of 18:19.08 for UD.

In the discus, Christine Borchers finished fourth with a mark of 139-11 (42.65m). Weeman was eighth, throwing 128-03 (39.10m).

Otte placed fifth in the javelin at Gettler Stadium. Otte’s mark was 106-04.

In the 200 meter dash Ashley Demange placed seventh with a time of 26.03. Lang took eighth in the event with a time of 26.25.

In the 400 meters, Mariah Curtis placed seventh. Curtis had a time of 59.41.

Jocelyn Abron placed 10th in the long jump. Abron had a mark of 15-11.50 (4.86m).

Dayton returns to competition on Saturday, March 24 at the Weems Baskin Invitational in Columbia, S.C.
