The opening round of the Dayton Flyers All-Time One-on-One Tournament took place with two quality contests.
In Region One, Gene Westendorf rallied from a 7-4 deficit and hit his final three field goals to clip his brother Jerome Westendorf 10-8.
Jerome jumped out to an early 4-2 lead thanks to two quick layups and a two-pointer from beyond the arc. Gene evened the score with two mid-range jumpers only to have Jerome answer with another two-pointer and a running one-hander in the lane.
Gene tighted up on defense and picked up a quick steal to get the momentum back on his side. With the score evened a 7-7, Gene used his quickness to grab another steal and nailed shots from inside the arc to advance.
The Region Four contest featured another tight battle as Hank Josefczyk defeated Troy McCracken 10-6. McCracken used his size to his advantage early on jumping out to a quick 4-0 lead.
However, Josefczyk started to hit shots from the outside and took a 6-4 lead after hitting 3-of-4 shots from beyond the arc.
McCracken added a bucket to stop the run, but Josefczyk proved to be too much out on the perimiter and picked up the win.
The first round begins on Monday, Nov. 5 with the First and Second Rounds beginning play.
