DAYTON, Ohio - University of Dayton volleyball head coach
Tim Horsmon has completed his staff with the addition of
Taylor Filzen as the coordinator of operations. She will be responsible for travel, budgets, equipment, film coding, community service projects and fundraising in addition to doing day-to-day operations of the office.
Prior to coming to UD, Filzen served as the coordinator of athletics communication and administration, began full-time employment in the University of Northwestern Athletic Department after being a three-year student-athlete for the Eagles. Her position was made possible through the NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority and Women's Internship Grant program. In addition to other responsibilities, Filzen was involved primarily in both the sports information and NCAA compliance areas of the athletic department.
During 2013, Filzen also served as the head junior varsity coach at University of Northwestern. A three-year player for the Eagles from 2009-2011, Filzen will led the UNW JV team in its 12-game schedule and all practice session. Filzen has extensive volleyball experience at the college, high school and junior Olympic levels. She has also been a camp instructor under Eagles head coach Beth Wilmeth and Kim Wudi, who leads the volleyball program at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
During her time as a student Northwestern, Filzen was a member of the Eagles volleyball teams that advanced to NCAA Tournaments in both 2011 and 2012. Off the volleyball court, Filzen served as a co-chair of the Northwestern Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and vice-chair of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) SAAC. Filzen gained experience in the Northwestern Athletic Department after working in both the athletic recruiting and sports information offices during her tenure as a student.
Coaching is in Filzen's blood as she comes from a family that has decades of experience with her mother, Tammy Filzen being the winningest coach in Carleton College women's basketball history. A Northfield, Minn., native and sister to six siblings, Filzen was a member of Northwestern's NCAA Tournament runs in 2010 and 2011 while earning Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Academic All-Conference honors three times.
A 2012 graduate of University of Northwestern with a degree in public relations, Filzen completed internships with the Carleton College Athletic Department in 2011 and the UMAC in 2012. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in organizational leadership.
