DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton finished first among the 14 Atlantic 10 Conference schools in the 2014-2015 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup (all-sport) final standings, and 16th among Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) programs. This is the best Dayton finish in the history of the Learfield Cup, which was started by NACDA in 1993-94.  Learfield Sports began sponsoring the program in 2008-09.

Dayton had a great year bolstered by its women's basketball program making its first Elite Eight® appearance this year. The Flyers fell to eventual national champion Connecticut, but not before earning 73 points in the Directors' Cup standings. The UD men's basketball team earned 50 points by appearing in three games in the NCAA Championship this year.

Three Flyer programs won Atlantic 10 titles this year: volleyball won the 2014 regular season and tournament titles, while softball claimed the program's first-ever A-10 regular season title, and women's soccer captured its conference tournament title. In addition, the men's and women's basketball teams, as well as football, finished second in their respective conferences in 2014-15. 

During the fall, the UD women's soccer team advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the ninth time in program history to earn 25 points. The Flyer volleyball team advanced to the Second Round of the 2014 NCAA Championship, falling to the eventual national champion Penn State, to earn 50 points.

Dayton competes in just three of the 15 winter sports that are counted in the Learfield Cup Standings: men's and women's basketball and women's indoor track and field. The standings also include bowling, fencing, men's and women's gymnastics, men's and women's ice hockey, rifle, skiing, men's and women's swimming and diving, men's indoor track and field, and wrestling.

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports — 10 women's and 10 men's.

The Flyers kick off the 2015-16 season this August with UD women's soccer playing at Florida International on Aug. 21, men's soccer playing at James Madison on Aug. 28, and volleyball taking on North Dakota State at the Iowa State Tournament on Aug. 28. Flyer football kicks off the season Sept. 5 at Robert Morris.
