DAYTON FOOTBALL TO PLAY SCRIMMAGE SATURDAY NIGHT

Offense vs. Defense Action Will Begin At 7:30 P.M. At Welcome Stadium

DAYTON – University of Dayton football fans will have their first opportunity to see the Flyer football team in action Saturday, Aug. 22 when UD will conduct an intra-squad scrimmage that begins at 7:30 p.m. ET.  The scrimmage will be played under the lights at Welcome Stadium and admission is free.

The scrimmage is part of the University's New Student Orientation Program.  Saturday is move-in day for UD's 2015 class of new students, and the entire group and their parents will be addressed at the University Of Dayton Arena by President Dr. Daniel J. Curran before relocating to a next door at the football stadium.

Students will be invited to be on the sideline during the scrimmage.  Before it begins, selected students will have the chance to match Flyer field goal kickers for prizes.

"Our team is looking forward to the scrimmage Saturday night," head coach Rick Chamberlin said.  "It's another step toward being ready for the season by simulating game atmosphere is much as we can.  Being under the lights will be important since we have two night games this season."

Coach Chamberlin has guided UD to 55 wins in his first seven seasons.  A Flyer All-American linebacker in his playing days, Chamberlin has been a part of 349 of UD's 649 wins – 26 as a player, 268 as an assistant coach, and 55 as a head coach.  He has also been a part of 460 of UD's 1,035 games.

The Flyers finished 8-3 last season and tied for second place in the Pioneer Football League with a 6-2 record.  UD was predicted to finish second in the PFL's preseason coaches' poll, in a tight race that featured four points separating the top three teams – San Diego, Dayton and Drake.  UD returns 17 starters (eight offense, eight defense, one specialist) from last season.

Dayton will open the season on Saturday, Sept. 5 at Robert Morris.  Game time will be 12 noon ET.  UD's home opener will be against Duquesne on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 1:00 p.m. ET.
