CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Gildan Charleston Classic set the eight-team field for the 2017 tournament to be held Thursday, Friday and Sunday, Nov. 16, 17 and 19, at TD Arena in Charleston, S.C.
The field will include Auburn, Clemson, Dayton, Hofstra, Indiana State, Old Dominion, Ohio and Temple.
Dayton last played in the Charlestown Classic in 2012 earning a fifth-place finish after defeating Boston College and Auburn.
This will be the sixth consecutive season the Flyers have played in a tournament owned and operated by ESPN Events. Dayton will be playing in the 2016 Wooden Legacy and finished in second place last season at the AdvoCare Invitational.
"Playing in tournaments like this serve two purposes," UD Vice-President and Director of Athletics
Neil Sullivan said. "With the strength of our basketball program and how our fans travel to support us, we are a very attractive team for these tournaments. For us, it gives us games against NCAA-caliber teams, on a neutral court, in areas of the country that we have alumni or at locations that our fans enjoy traveling to. With these games televised nationally, it is great for the basketball program and the University."
