DAYTON FOOTBALL SIGNING DAY UPDATE

2015 PFL Co-Champs Adding 36 Freshmen For 2016

DAYTON – Fresh off the first NCAA FCS playoff berth and the 12th Pioneer Football League championship in University of Dayton history, the Flyer football program is bringing in another strong recruiting class according to head coach Rick Chamberlin.

While NCAA regulations and University policies preclude the release of the individuals who have committed at this time, Chamberlin sees them carrying on the Dayton tradition of success on the field and in the classroom.  The entire class will be released at a later date.

"We're very excited to have this group of young men join the Flyer football program," Chamberlin said.  "It's a typical Dayton class, which means that we are proud to say that they are typically outstanding.  They are a great fit for the University of Dayton, both athletically and academically.  And when you talk fit, it's a two-way street.  They fit what we are looking for, but perhaps more importantly we fit what they are looking for.

"When they looked at a school to continue their football career, they made sure they fit into the community of the University, that the football program was competitive enough for them, and that the education they would receive would set them up for their professional career.  During the recruiting process, we always make sure they understand that this is not a four-year decision, but a 40-year decision."

Among the highlights for the Flyer football Class of 2020 are:
• 3.64 average high school GPA
• 26 average score on the ACT
• 22 team captains
• 16 National Honor Society members
• 7 members of state championship teams
• 19 offensive players
• 16 defensive players
• 1 kicking specialist

The members of the Class of 2020 hail from nine states, including 12 from Ohio.  A total of 10 come from Chicago, five from Cincinnati, four from Columbus and three each from Akron, Ann Arbor and St. Louis.

In addition, Chamberlin announced the following seniors have indicated they will return in the fall for their fifth season in the Flyer football program:  defensive tackle Miles Ashleman, linebacker Christopher Beaschler, defensive tackle Andy Carfagna, defensive end Michael Gray, Flyer Chris Hagan, offensive guard Spencer Luallen, safety Travis Nees, tight end Ian Palin, defensive tackle Michael Scott, cornerback Cameron Stubbs, center Shane Toub, offensive tackle Jimmy Vogel, safety Luke Welsh, kicker William Will and running back Owen Williams.

Beaschler was First Team Academic All-America in 2015.  Stubbs was the team's MVP.  Both were First Team All-PFL, along with Vogel and Will.
