ST. LOUIS -- Thanks in part to a PFL-record 81 University of Dayton football players recognized, the Pioneer Football League has announced its largest PFL Academic Honor Roll ever. A total of 616 student-athletes were honored.

It is the 21st time in the 23 year-history of the PFL that Dayton had the most team members on the honor roll. The Flyers previously had set records of 76 in 2014, 74 in 2012 and 72 in 2011 (UD also had 72 in 2013).
 
Five of the 11 league schools had 50 or more players honored. Following UD were Butler (80), Drake (66), Davidson (58), and Stetson (55).
 
The honor roll, established as a way for the league to recognize its outstanding student-athletes, consists of student-athletes that posted a 3.0 grade point average or better during the fall semester.

Dayton enjoyed a historic season this fall, finishing 10-2 overall and making the Flyers' first appearance in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision playoffs.  UD was the co-champions of Pioneer Football League with a 7-1 conference record. 

Dayton shared the title with San Diego, but earned the PFL's automatic berth into the playoffs with a 14-13 win over the league preseason favorite Toreros.  It was the Flyers' 12th PFL crown in the 23-year history of the league.
