DAYTON SWEPT BY RAMS WITH 5-3 FINALE SUNDAY

KINGSTON, R.I. – The University of Dayton baseball team finished its series at Rhode Island Sunday with a tough 5-3 loss.

The Flyers (16-32, 5-13 A-10) were unable to match the Rams (22-22, 13-5) offensively and suffered their third loss of the weekend.

SCORING BREAKDOWN
  • Top of 1st – Dayton struck first with an RBI double by Robbie Doring, scoring Connor Echols, who had doubled previously. Dayton 1, URI 0
  • Bottom of 1st – Rhode Island answered with a single run in the bottom of the first on a fielder's choice. Dayton 1, URI 1
  • Bottom of 2nd – A defensive miscue by the Flyers and a triple by URI resulted in a pair of unearned runs for the Rams. Dayton 1, URI 3
  • Top of 5th – Dayton got a run back in the fifth with an RBI groundout by Echols. Dayton 2, URI 3
  • Bottom of 7th – Rhode Island added to its lead with two runs in the seventh. Dayton 2, URI 5
  • Top of 8thSam Sustersic got a run back the next inning with a fielder's choice that allowed Echols to score from third. Dayton 3, URI 5

KEY STATS
  • The Flyers out-hit the Rams 7-6, but left nine runners stranded.
  • Echols led the offense with a 2-for-3 day with two runs scored, an RBI, and a double. Nick Ryan went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a double as well.
  • Doring and Sustersic provided the other RBI.
  • Starter Austin Cline (L, 2-4) pitched seven innings, giving up five runs, two earned, on five hits while striking out two.
  • Reliever Tyler Henry pitched a shutout eighth.

  • The Flyers will host Davidson in a three-game series this week starting Thursday at 12 p.m. Friday's doubleheader will begin at 11 a.m. with Senior Day taking place prior to the game.
