DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's basketball team has announced that Brittany Ward will transfer to join the Flyers next season.

"I'm very excited to have Brittany joining our family," said head coach Shauna Green. "Her one year of experience in the Big East will be beneficial as she transitions into our program. She brings versatility, toughness, and a scoring mentality and I can't wait to have her here at UD."

Ward is a 6'1 guard from Indianapolis, Ind. and spent her freshman season at Butler University. Prior to the 2015-16 season, she was named the Big East Preseason Freshman of the Year.

With the Bulldogs in 2015-16, Ward was one of two players for Butler to start all 31 games. She averaged 9.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game, to go with 17 steals and 14 blocks. Ward averaged 28.3 minutes per game while shooting 37.4% from the field. She appeared in two games for the Bulldogs this season before deciding to transfer.

Coming out of Pike High School in Indianapolis, Ward was the 34^th-ranked recruit in the nation and sixth at her position. She was named Indiana All-State in 2015 and was a three-time All-State selection. She is the second-highest scorer in Pike High School history with 1,498 points and is the first women's basketball player to add 1,000 rebounds to that total. According to ESPNW Rankings, she was graded a 97 and a five-star recruit. Ward was also a four-time team MVP and three-time team captain.
