DAYTON – After 27 wins in the last three seasons, back-to-back 7-1 records in the Pioneer Football League, and a seven-game winning streak heading into the 2017 season, the University of Dayton Flyer football program is bringing in another strong recruiting class according to head coach
Rick Chamberlin.
While NCAA regulations and University policies preclude the release of the individuals who have committed at this time, Chamberlin sees them carrying on the Dayton tradition of success on the field and in the classroom. The entire class will be released at a later date.
"I'm very pleased at the number of quality young men that we were able to bring to the University of Dayton," Chamberlin said. "We really addressed needs in terms of depth on the offensive line and in the secondary. It's a typical Dayton class, which means that we are proud to say that they are typically outstanding. They are quality students, quality athletes and quality leaders.
"The last couple of seasons, we have had some outstanding freshmen who have gotten onto the field sooner than in the past. The reason? National exposure. The University is a national university, and making the 2015 NCAA playoffs has opened doors for our football program.
"I feel like we have raised our recruiting to a higher level because we were able to target depth without sacrificing the quality of student or the quality of individual we want to bring into our program. We could see some of this class be in a position to get a number of looks in the preseason and contribute right away."
Among the highlights for the Flyer Football Class of 2021 are:
• 3.61 average high school GPA
• 25.91 average score on the ACT
• 22 team captains
• 6 National Honor Society members
• 2 members of state championship teams
• 18 offensive players
• 15 defensive players
The members of the Class of 2021 hail from 10 states, including eight from Ohio. A total of seven come from Illinois, all from Chicago. The newest Flyers also hail from Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Pennsylvania and Tennessee
In addition, Chamberlin announced the following seniors have indicated they will return in the fall for their fifth season in the Flyer football program: linebacker
Jack Crain, wide receiver
Jack Euritt, offensive guard
Jim Hammontree and tight end
Gus Madden.
Crain was Second Team All-PFL in 2016, while Euritt was Honorable Mention. Crain is particularly noteworthy because when he finishes up next year, he will not only have undergraduate degrees in Accounting and Finance, but will also have completed his MBA in Accounting.
