The University of Dayton excelled on and off the field for the 2016-17 winter season. The Flyers earned two conference championships, one tournament championship, and one third-place finish to wrap up the winter season. In fact, Dayton is the only NCAA Division I school to have seven combined regular season and/or tournament championships through the fall and winter this year.

In addition, both men's and women's basketball teams extended their seasons into the NCAA tournament. The men's basketball team earned an at-large bid, qualifying for tournament for the fourth consecutive year. The women's basketball team earned an automatic bid to the tournament via the Atlantic 10 Championship.
 
Off the field, the Flyers earned a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 95, ranking 26^th in the nation. Men's basketball, women's basketball and women's track and field/cross country all have a perfect GSR.
 
Here is a look at some of the Dayton highlights from the 2016-17 winter season:
 
Men's Basketball

• The four Flyer seniors – Charles Cooke, Kyle Davis, Scoochie Smith, and Kendall Pollard became the winningest senior class in Dayton history with 102 wins and were the first class to go to the NCAA Tournament all four years.
• Dayton completed an outstanding regular season, winning its first outright Atlantic 10 Conference regular season championship.
• Coach Archie Miller was selected as Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year as well as NABC District 4 Coach of the Year.
• Four Flyers earned All-Conference honors. Kyle Davis was named Sixth Man of the Year, Scoochie Smith was named All-Atlantic 10 First Team, Charles Cooke was named All-Atlantic 10 Second Team, and Kendall Pollard was named All-Atlantic 10 Third Team. Cooke and Kyle Davis were also on the A-10 All-Defensive Team
• Dayton ended the season with a 24-8 overall record, 15-3 conference record.
   

Women's Basketball

• From late December to early February the Flyers never lost a game. The Flyers celebrated 11 straight victories and won 14 of 15 games.
• In Shauna Green's first season as head coach, the Flyers won their third Atlantic 10 regular season championship. She was named the 2017 WBCA National Rookie Coach of the Year.
• The Flyers earned an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament via their second Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship. Dayton lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament to eight-time national champion Tennessee.
• Redshirt senior Kelley Austria joined the 1,000 point club against Duquesne on January 10, 2017. Austria was also named A-10 Defensive Player of the Year as well as All-Conference Second Team and All-Defensive Team.
• Senior Saicha Grant-Allen and Junior Jenna Burdette earned Second Team All-Conference honors. Freshman Jayla Scaife was named to the A-10 All-Rookie Team.
• Grant-Allen also set a school record for career offensive rebounds with 290 in her four-year career with the Flyers.
• The Flyers ended their season with a 22-10 overall record, 13-3 conference record.
   

Women's Track and Field

• The Flyers placed third at the 2017 Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship, closing out a successful 2017 indoor season.
• Redshirt sophomore Erin Reese was named Most Outstanding Field Performer at the 2017 Atlantic Indoor Championship with gold medals in weight throw and shot put. Reese set a UD record in women's discus with a mark of 48.95m and had a PR in the shot put 15.27m, which is the second-best all-time at Dayton.
• Junior Sarah Sepanski won the pentathlon at the 2017 A-10 Indoor Conference Championship.
• Freshman Kris Lindow was named to the A-10 Women's All-Rookie Team for shot put and weight throw.
• Sepanski and Reese were both named to the A-10 All-Academic Team.
• There were 55 PRs set by the Flyers during the indoor season and four student-athletes recorded Top 5 All-Time marks at UD (McDonald, Reese, Rossi, Vernot)
