DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's basketball team announced the addition of
Julia Chandler to the program.
"I am so excited to have Julia join our family," said head coach
Shauna Green. "Her ability to score with her back to the basket and shoot the three are essential in how we want to play. Julia's experience playing two years in the ACC and reaching a Final Four will be beneficial as we continue to build our program. I can't wait to get her on the court and get started."
Chandler joins the Flyers after playing the past two seasons at Syracuse University. With the Orange, the 6-2 forward played in 59 games, averaging 8.5 minutes, 2.5 points, and 1.2 rebounds per game. Last season, she had career highs in numerous categories, including three-pointers, three-point percentage, free throw percentage, rebounds, assists, blocks, and points per game. Chandler scored career-highs of 12 points against Boston College and DePaul. She helped the Orange to a 22-11 record in 2016-17 and a trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to No. 1 Connecticut. In 2015-16, Chandler played 32 games as Syracuse advanced to the National Championship where it fell to UConn.
While attending Northern Secondary School in Toronto, Chandler was a standout athlete, ranking 91
st in the nation according to espnW HoopGurlz Class Rankings for 2015 as a four-star recruit. She also played for the Canadian U16 national team which finished second at the FIBA World Championships and went on to play for the U17 and U19 squads for Team Canada.
Julia is the daughter of Gill and Peter Chandler.
