#UDWBB Has Duo Named Academic All-District

Jenna Burdette And Lauren Cannatelli Both Earned Second Team Honors

DAYTON – The 2017-18 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced their Academic All-District teams for women's basketball today and recognized two University of Dayton student-athletes.

Senior guard Jenna Burdette and junior guard Lauren Cannatelli were both named Second Team Academic All-District in Division I District 5. Dayton was one of two schools joining Indiana with multiple honorees in the district and one of three schools in the Atlantic 10 with an honoree, joining St. Bonaventure and Saint Louis.

"Obviously academics here is just as important as our performance on the floor so having Jenna and Lauren named to this academic team is important and I am so proud of them," said head coach Shauna Green. "At the end of the day, that is what it is about. It's about developing as players, but most importantly developing in the classroom and developing as people. It is very big for them to get that and I am really proud of those honors.

Burdette is finishing off a stellar career at Dayton, leading the Flyers in scoring with 16.3 points and 4.0 assists per game. She is the reigning A-10 Player of the Week and has moved into the Top 15 all-time in scoring in UD history. The Coolville, Ohio native ranks in the top five in the nation in three-point percentage as well.

Cannatelli is having a strong campaign as well, averaging 13.4 points per game and shooting 41.7 percent from three-point range. She also leads the Atlantic 10 in free throw shooting with an 84.6 percent clip. The Cincinnati native has career highs in minutes per game, shooting percentage, three-point percentage, rebounds, assists, and points this season.

Both student athletes are Exercise Physiology majors and have been nominees for other academic awards such as the Senior CLASS Award and Presidential Scholar Athlete Award.

The Flyers won their second-straight Atlantic 10 regular season championship this year and have one game left in the season at Saint Louis Saturday.
