DAYTON - The University of Dayton volleyball team kicked off its spring 2018 schedule with a closed scrimmage against Michigan Saturday at Frericks Center. The teams split the day into two sessions, playing two independent sets in the morning and a best-of-five series in the afternoon.

Michigan took both sets of the morning session, 25-20 and 25-12, and narrowly edged Dayton, 3-2 (25-18, 22-25, 25-19, 16-25, 15-12), in the five-set match played in the afternoon.

Trailing 2-1 heading into the fourth set, Dayton rattled off seven straight points to jump out 7-0 on Michigan. The Flyers took the fourth set to even the match and force a fifth frame. In the deciding set, The Flyers and Wolverines traded points and Michigan was able to reach eight points first as the teams switched sides. The final set seesawed back and forth but the Wolverines came out on top, 15-12, to win the match.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Lauren Bruns posted a double-double with 16 kills and 10 digs
• Jamie Peterson also tallied double-digit kills with 15
• Brooke Westbeld recorded an all-around game with seven kills, 10 assists and three assisted blocks
• Kendyll Brown chipped in 11 kills and added two assisted blocks
• Margo Wolf passed a team-high 23 digs
• Bridget Doherty set a team-best 46 assists
