FLYERS FACE FURMAN AND NO. 13 CLEMSON

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The University of Dayton baseball team continues a 12-day road swing facing the Furman Paladins on Tuesday and the No. 13 Clemson Tigers on Wednesday.

Dayton has won four of its last five games and swept the Wofford Terriers in two games over the weekend. UD also beat the New Jersey Institute of Technology in the Courtyard by Marriott Baseball Classic.

Cole Tyrell leads the team with a .455 batting average. He had six doubles on the weekend and 10 RBI, earning Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors. Bryce Lahrman was named Rookie of the Week after seven innings on the mound for UD in a 16-1 win over the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

The Flyers (4-3) face Furman at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Paladins are led by Will Muzika who is hitting .333 on the year.  Muzika also had four RBI and two home runs.  Furman will start left-handed pitcher Nate Smith. Smith has made one start on the year, but has not faced a decision in 5.1 innings of action. He has two strikeouts.

Smith will face right-handed pitcher Mike Hauschild on the hill. Hauschild had a strong outing against Wofford in which he helped the Flyers secure a come-from-behind win in extra innings. Hauschild has a 1.93 ERA and seven strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched.  He is making his first start of the season for UD.

Left-handed pitcher Cameron Hobson is expected to start against No. 13 Clemson. The A-10’s 2009 Rookie of the Year, Hobson will go against the 6-0 Tigers at 4:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday. Kyle Parker leads the Clemson with a .435 batting average and three home runs. Jeff Schaus is averaging .429 at the plate and leads the team with 11 RBI.

Clemson is expected to name its starter on Tuesday.
