DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton Flyers knocked off the Butler Bulldogs 3-1 at Time Warner Cable Stadium, as the Flyers improved to 6-9 on the season.

The pitching staff held strong, allowing only one earned run in appearances from six UD pitchers. Eric Wagner earned the win with one strikeout and one hit allowed in 2.0 innings pitched.  Trent Haughn, a freshman right-handed pitcher from Ottawa, Ohio closed the game sitting Butler down in order on three strikeouts to earn his first collegiate save.

Cole Tyrell was 1-for-2 with one RBI. He was also walked once in three total plate appearances. Junior Jimmy Roesinger had one RBI on a sacrifice fly. Zach Jacob had one RBI on Wednesday.

The Flyers opened up the scoring in the second inning on Roesinger’s sacrifice fly to left field which brought home Ian Hundley. Mitchell Nelson scored in the next plate appearance after Jacob reached on an error.

UD chimed in again during the bottom of the sixth inning. Tyrell’s base hit to right field scored Jacob on the play.

Butler responded with one run in the top of the eighth inning. The Bulldogs’ Grant Fillipitch scored on a base hit by Corey Moylan. With the game-tying run at the plate, the Flyers sat down two in a row to end the inning.

Dayton returns to action on Friday in a three-game series against Canisius. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m. ET on Friday.
