DAYTON TAKES ON UMASS IN THIRD ANNUAL MATH DAY GAME
The University of Dayton hosts the Massachusetts Minutewomen at UD Arena Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 11 a.m. in UD’s Annual Math Day Game. The field trip for kids from pre-school to middle school, has an education emphasis on math. Each student has a packet of activities to complete throughout the game. More than 4.400 students are expected to attend.

THE DAYTON DETAILS
The Flyers are 15-8 overall this season and 6-3 in the Atlantic 10. Junior Justine Raterman leads UD in scoring with 16.8 ppg (5th in A-10). Raterman also leads UD in rebounds per game, averaging 7.3 (tied for 10th in A-10). Senior Kristin Daugherty adds 13.0 ppg (tied for 13th in A-10). Junior Patrice Lalor leads the team in assists with 82 and junior Casey Nance leads the Flyers in blocked shots with 29.

SCOUTING UMASS
The Minutewomen are 6-18 overall, 2-7 in the Atlantic 10 and have lost their last seven of their last eight games. UMass has a balanced offense with four players scoring in double figures; Cerie Mosgrove leads the way with 13.8 ppg (10th in A-10), Jasmine Watson is second with 13.6 ppg, followed by Megan Zullo (10.9 ppg) and Shakia Robinson (10.8 ppg). Watson leads the team in rebounding with 7.3 rpg (tied for 10th in A-10) and blocked shots with 30. Zullo leads UMass in assists with 116 (2nd in A-10) and in steals with 34.

THE SERIES
This game marks the 18th meeting between the Minutewomen and the Flyers. UMass leads the all-time series 10-7 but Dayton has won the last three meetings. Last year senior Kristin Daugherty’s 1,000th career point came in a 74-60 win at UMass on Feb. 13, 2010. She was one of five UD players to score in double figures in the victory. Patrice Lalor led the way with 13 points, Justine Raterman added 12, and Daugherty, Casey Nance and Elle Queen put up 10 points each. The Flyers are just 2-5 all-time against UMass at UD Arena.

LAST TIME OUT
A showdown of the two top scoring teams in the Atlantic 10 needed overtime to declare a winner as the University of Dayton Flyers lost 70-66 in overtime to the No. 7/7 Xavier University Musketeers (19-2, 8-0 A-10) Saturday at UD Arena. Junior Justine Raterman paced Dayton with 25 points. It was her fourth consecutive double-figure game and 19th of the season. Senior Kristin Daugherty added 17 points. Patrice Lalor netted 14 points and had eight assists.

BATTLING FOR BOARDS
Dayton is third in the A-10 in rebounding margin at +8.0 which is 17th best in the NCAA. The Flyers became just the third team this season to outrebound No. 7/7 Xavier with UD grabbing 51 to X’s 39. South Carolina (by five in an 84-65 loss by the Gamecocks) and Stanford (by three in an 89-52 win by the Cardinal) are the only other two teams to win the battle of the boards against Xavier this season.

UP NEXT
The Flyers begin a three-game Atlantic 10 road swing, before returning home for Senior Day on Saturday, Feb. 26 when Dayton hosts Fordham. The road trip includes games at Charlotte (Feb. 12), Temple (Feb. 19) and Rhode Island (Feb. 23).
