MALLORY BARNES AUTOMATICALLY QUALIFIES FOR NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

RESULTS

AKRON, Ohio
– University of Dayton All-American track and field thrower Mallory Barnes earned a spot in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships with an automatic qualifying mark of 69-11.75 in the weight throw on Saturday at Stile Fieldhouse.

Barnes’ first-place mark breaks a school record in the weight throw, which she set just two weeks prior at the Findlay Classic when she threw for a distance of 68-02.50.

In addition to Barnes’ record-breaking distance, the Flyers captured two more individual championships in the 3000 meter run (Gold Division) and the high jump (Blue Division).

Senior Maureen Bulgrin highlighted a particularly strong showing by the distance runners at the meet. Bulgrin finished first in the 3000 meter run crossing the finish line in a time of 9:35.86. Junior Elissa Mason finished fourth with a time of 9:51.76 and Emily Zimmerman was sixth at 9:58.31.

Senior Liz Coorey finished third in the one mile run (Gold Division) with a time of 4:55.58.

Freshman Brittany Reid placed first in the high jump after clearing 5-04.50. Juliana Lawniczak finished ninth at 4-11.00.

Barnes was also strong in the shot put. She finished second (Blue Division) with a throw of 48-00.50. Senior Johnna Zaccari was fifth with a measure of 46-06.00 and sophomore Christine Borchers finished ninth with a distance of 44-05.50.

Sophomore Jada Henderson finished second (Blue Division) in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.22.  Courtney Siebenaller was fifth in the Gold Division in the pole vault. Siebenaller cleared 12-06.25, while freshman Katrina Steinhauser took sixth in the Blue Division with a height of 11-00.75.

The Flyers travel to Kingston, R.I. next weekend to defend the championship that they earned a share of last year at the Atlantic 10 Championships on Feb. 18 and 19.
