NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Two University of Dayton women’s soccer players were honored this week by the Atlantic 10. Junior Colleen Williams was named the A-10 Co-Player of the Week, and freshman Kelsey Smigel was named the conference’s co-rookie of the week.

Williams notched assists on both of Dayton’s goals in UD’s 2-1 double overtime win over Xavier. Her second assist of the night came on Alexis Garcia’s golden goal and tied her for first all-time on UD’s career assist list with 28. Williams had the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Oakland. She leads the Flyers in points (21), goals (7) and assists (7).

This is the second time Williams has won the award this season, also earning the honor the first week of action. It marks the fifth career A-10 Player of the Week accolade for the reigning A-10 Offensive Player of the Year.

Smigel scored the game-tying goal and had the game-winning assist in Dayton’s 2-1 win over Oakland. The Flyers finished non-conference play with a 9-1 record. She is Dayton’s third leading scorer with three goals and three assists for nine points.

Smigel is the second consecutive Flyer to earn A-10 Rookie of the Week honors. Katrin Loo earned the award last week.

In addition, TopDrawerSoccer released its Atlantic 10 Top 20 List and the Flyers had three players in the Top 5. Williams topped the list at No. 1, while senior defender Kathleen Beljan was No. 3 and sophomore midfielder Juliana Libertin came in at No. 5.

Dayton (10-1-0 overall, 1-0-0 A-10) is ranked No. 17 in the TopDrawerSoccer Tournament 64 Rankings. UD moved up two spots to No. 18 in the College Soccer America Top 25. The Flyers also held on to their No. 1 NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional ranking this week. Currently, they are No. 18 in the NSCAA national poll, which will be released tomorrow.
