Post-Game Notes

Dayton improves to 15-8 overall and 8-4 in the Atlantic 10 West Division, while Xavier falls to 13-10 and 7-5. UD takes sole possession of second place in the division, one game behind George Washington. Xavier drops to third.

Flyer junior Marques Bennett was named with Blackburn/McCafferty MVP, even though he scored just five points. All five points were scored in the last 39 seconds of the game. He tied the game at 55 with a driving layup, was fouled, and gave Dayton the lead, 56-55. He pulled down a defensive rebound, was fouled again, and knocked down both shots to put UD up 58-59. For the game, Bennett played 13 minutes, was one-for-two from the field, three-for-three at the line, grabbed four rebounds and had one assist.

UD now leads the series 79-58. The two teams square off again in Cincinnati in the year's final regular season game on Saturday, March 5.

Monty Scott led UD with 12 points. It was the eighth time this year he was the Flyer's top scorer.

Brian Roberts had 10 points in the game. It was the 11th time the Flyer freshman has come off the bench and reached double digits (eighth in the last 14 games).

UD shot .513 (20-39) from the field, its second-highest FG% of the season.

Saturday's game was the 74th sellout in UD Arena history. The last eight regular season games between the Flyers and the Musketeers in Dayton have been sellouts.

The game also marked the culmination of the I-75 Challenge between the student fans of the two schools. UD's student fan group, the Red Scare won the friendly competition by a comfortable margin, but the most important victory was for the various charities chosen by the two groups, who will benefit from a total of 23,000 pounds (each dollar donated was considered one pound) collected from the fans of the two schools.

Dayton's next game is on Tuesday at St. Bonaventure. Game time is 7:00 p.m. EST. Xavier returns home to take on division leader GW on Wednesday.
