DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton men's basketball squad gave fans a sneak peek of what's to come for the 2008-09 season Saturday afternoon at the Red and Blue Game at UD Arena.

Both Flyer men's and women's basketball players signed autographs for fans earlier in the morning and afterwards the men's team played four eight-minute quarters, switching up teams after each period. The Blue team ended up with the win for a final score of 67-59.

Redshirt junior Mickey Perry and freshman Chris Johnson both led all scorers with 22 points apiece. Junior Rob Lowery dished out eight assists, while senior London Warren passed out five dimes. Sophomore Chris Wright had a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds, while junior Kurt Huelsman grabbed nine boards.

After the first eight minutes of action, the Flyers put up 26 points. Perry paced UD with 10 points, including 2-for-2 from downtown. Lowery also impressed in the first quarter, dishing out four assists. The first period also matched up Lowery against junior London Warren. Freshman Luke Fabrizius knocked down one of the five treys of the first period. It was promptly answered by one of Perry's three-pointers. Sophomore Stephen Thomas got in on the action, drilling the third Flyer trifecta in less than a minute. Junior Marcus Johnson ended the first eight minutes, fittingly, with a long ball with one second left on the clock.

The second quarter didn't disappoint either. The two squads combined for 32 points, and the Blue Team held a 33-25 lead. While the first stanza featured the outside game, the second had plenty of dunks and great combination passes for easy baskets underneath.

Sophomore Chris Wright put down a monstrous dunk at the 5:54 mark. Not to be outdone, sophomore Devin Searcy slammed it down on the other end on a sweet set up from Perry. Freshman Josh Benson also got in on the action, going hard to the rim with a slam late in the quarter.

The third period heated up midway through when freshman Chris Johnson hit a shot with 4:42 to play to give UD Blue a 39-33 lead. Wright answered and slammed down his second dunk of the game on Red's next play on the other side of the court. After an athletic steal by Lowery he fed Wright for a wide open fast break tomahawk dunk. After an offensive foul, Lowery went coast to coast with a finger roll lay in with 2:27 to play in the third. The big man Chris Johnson drained his second three of the game at the 1:36 mark.

The fourth quarter was just as fast as the first as both teams tied 17-17. The Flyers finished the game with a combined 14 treys, but the Blue team walked away the winner with a final score of 67-59.

The Flyer men's basketball season tips off with two exhibition games on Nov. 6 vs. Capital and Nov. 11 against Gannon. The official season will get underway Sunday, Nov. 16 against Wofford at 7 p.m. ET.
