Box Score | Quotes

DAYTON, Ohio - Senior Marcus Johnson scored 13 points off the bench to lead the No. 21/22 University of Dayton Flyers to a 71-61 exhibition win over the Northern Kentucky Nourse.

Dayton's Mickey Perry and Chris Wright each scored 11 points, Chris Johnson had 10 points and four rebounds and London Warren dished out nine assists.

The Flyers played much better defensively in their second exhibition limited NKU to 40 percent shooting from the floor and forcing 14 turnovers.

The Norse, ranked 20th in the nation in the preseason Division II poll, was led by a 15-point effort from Scott Bibbins. David Palmer added 13 points and five rebounds, while Chris Knight chipped in with 10 points and six boards.

UD came out of the gate hot, scoring seven unanswered to start the game. The spurt was highlighted by a Devin Searcy alley-oop dunk from London Warren. However NKU answered going on a 7-0 run of their own to even the score with 15:32 left to go.

Dayton followed up with an 8-0 run to give them the 15-7 lead with 13 minutes left in the half, but NKU battled back once again. With 7:12 to go, Knight's back-to-back free throws gave the Norse the 25-24 lead.

It didn't last long though as Dayton's Chris Johnson hit a three on UD's next possession, then again three possessions later. Johnson led the team with eight points in the first half, as the Flyers took a 41-34 lead into the locker room.

UD's "Flight Club" got the crowd going in the second half. After a Marcus Johnson block, Wright slammed down a fast break dunk. Then a steal by Warren led to a Marcus Johnson dunk giving the Flyers a 49-40 lead with 14:48 left in the game.

Marcus Johnson finished the game shooting 6-of-12 from the floor and had four assists.

The Norse pulled to within eight with just over eight minutes to go, but that's as close as they would get all night, as the Flyers came away with the 10-point win.

As a team the Flyers shot 45 percent from the floor and 6-of-15 from beyond the arc.

UD will open its 2009-10 regular season on Saturday, Nov. 14 when the Flyers welcome the Creighton Bluejays into town. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
