Head Coach Brian Gregory
"The most important thing for me is the progression we have made over the last couple of weeks. We played a very talented team that is extremely well coached. I love teams that know who they are and how to win, and every day they go out and do it. That is exactly what Old Dominion does."
"I'm pleased with our win. That was one that you had to tough out for 40 minutes. You had to play the entire game and every single possession was important, so your focus had to be great. It was the best 40 minutes we have played all year in terms of consistency in doing things that you need to do to be successful."
"This week was a big week for us to evaluate where we were at, two or three weeks after the trip to San Juan. We aren't there yet, but we are definitely making progress."
On Chris Wright's Early Turnovers...
"Some of it his aggressiveness, which is fine, you can't try to curtail that. They haven't played that much zone all year long, and sometimes you have to get a feel for where they are coming from. I think Chris wanted to play so well and so badly after not playing well on Tuesday, that he tried to make up for it on every catch when he had the ball. He settled down in the second half and we were able to get him some actions that put him in good position and he was much better. He was a monster on the glass. That's the kind of rebound effort that if we can come to expect it, it will give us a lift. He was tremendous in the second half for us."
On the physicality of the game...
"It was a brutally physical game for us, which is good. I'm not sure two weeks ago that we would have embraced that challenge. We did a good job. The consistency throughout the entire game, every screen was challenged and on every rebound there were bodies flying around. We picked up some big charges again. This team is better than any team we have had in terms of sacrificing your body and in terms of charges. You have to do that to be good defensively."
On the play of his team...
"I thought that Marcus Johnson played his best game of the year. He was good in every facet of the game, which is what you come to expect from him. We are going to need that. London played well from the point guard spot. I thought that Mickey gave us quality minutes."
On the poise of his team in the closing minutes...
"You have to get the stops at the end of the game. We have been able to do that. One thing that we need to take more pride in is that we got them into the end of the shot clock quite a bit tonight. That was a situation in where we did that again."
"I just had to stay focused. We had too many turnovers early. Coach always talks about being poised and playing your game. I was too aggressive early and moving too fast. You have to go out there and play the game you can play."
"They are a really good team. They have players who can play all over the place. Their subs can come in and knock down some threes even with a hand in their face. They have one of the best big men in the league picked first team, all-conference. They were picked to win their league, so it's a real good win for us."
"The difference was poise and toughness. We said coming into the game was the battle on the boards. Down the stretch we won the battle on the boards and toughed it out at the end."
"It was very important. We knew they were a very good team, a very hungry team and a well-coached team. They had been on a roll and we just wanted to finish strong before this last segment and before finals with a win."
"We are just going back to our principles with is good man-to-man defense and focusing on keeping the ball in front of us and having our teammates help. It seems to be successful so far."
"We just had to continue to push the ball extremely hard and it's really tough against a zone. We try to push the ball in transition to get them to scramble and get out of position. The biggest thing was getting the pace going and get out in transition."
"It feels pretty good. The Colonial as everybody can see is a tough league. They are always well-prepared and it's top-to-bottom a solid league. It's great to get two wins this week, one at home and one on the road, against them."
"It was just good to tie some things together, especially coming out after halftime like we did. It was a hard fought game. They are a physical team, a really good team and we just take our hats off to them."
"It was definitely a war. They are big, strong kids and we're both physical teams. When you have two physical teams, us and Old Dominion, we tend to clash a little bit. It was a good, hard-fought game. The guys played well and it was a good win."
