Head Coach Brian Gregory
"I was really impressed after watching Appalachian State on film. Obviously I think that Buzz has done a great job there and they are going to have a great season. They have every tool that you need. They get quality point guard play, wings that can score and big guys that can play inside. We were going to have to have a great effort, even if we had everybody available to us to be successful."
"As much as any team in any game, I am really proud of these guys. With the adversity that we faced in a very short time, to mentally get our bearings and get on track with what we needed to do to be successful. With those guys to play the way they did tonight, we needed every single one of them. We had great basketball from everyone. Faced with that adversity like that, sometimes true characters and colors tend to show. I think you saw it not from just those eight guys, but it was a total team effort."
"Sometimes when you are faced with challenges you have to dig down a little bit deeper. That is what our guys did today and I am very, very proud of them."
"It was a great effort on the glass. One thing that has probably gone unnoticed, is that Kurt shouldn't have played the last two games, because of his strained calf. The doctors said he can't hurt it anymore, and the only thing you can do is probably ice it and get some rest. For him to play the way he has the past two games and in particular the today with his eight points and the tremendous job that he did on Isaac Butts, he was fantastic. Butts is the leading rebounder in that league and we held him to three rebounds tonight. Anybody that every questioned him will have to go through me. He did a great job."
"I am pleased, it's a great way to end the first part of this season. We definitely have gotten better and now we have to continue to get better."
"There were three or four times where we got gassed out there. I think you saw it sometimes with the sloppiness. We showed it more on offense with some impatience, instead of not defending. We continued to defend and rebound well, even when we were gassed. Sometimes the easy way out on offense is to take a quick shot, and we did that."
"Josh Benson is playing well for us. He did a great job on the glass. He is a very talented and skilled player. He's young, so his mistakes are youthful exuberance at times. He does not have to shoot every time he touches it. As I always say, it's much easier to teach a guy good shots than it is to get guys to be aggressive when shooting."
"You are starting to see us come around on the defensive side. The one thing is that they are so fast and can score so quickly. Our pressure has been tremendous against teams with the fast break. We slow them down with our pressure."
Mickey Perry
"Just playing hard and playing within myself and within our system. The coaching staff has been very positive with me and just taking things within the system and getting the shots that are there."
"We just take what the defense gives us. If they are at the rim or outside, we are betting with driving and playing to our strengths. Opportunities came when we could drive to the basket and we capitalized on those."
"To be the team we want to be we have to battle through the adversities through the season. There's nothing you can control with injuries and you just have to go out there when an opportunity comes to take advantage of that. The guys came through and we got the win. That's what it's all about at the end."
Josh Benson
"I was just ready. I've been ready since the first day on campus. When my number is called, I just want to produce and help the team."
"I knew it was going to be everybody, not just me, to step up. We knew with those guys, three of our top four scorers, out right there, we had to be prepared. We came out tonight and played good."
Paul Williams
"Just how we play, we run and we pressure and do a lot of different things. That's why we play 11 or 12 people. We play really hard, get a blow and come back hard. We had a lot of guys out, so everybody had to pick it up."
"I was tired. I felt like I had bricks in my legs running down the court. But we got the win. We had to make a lot of adjustments. They are a good team."
