LEMON BROTHERS MAKE UD RUNNING HISTORY

March 31, 2008

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton men's cross country team is definitely keeping up the momentum from the fall 2007 campaign well into the 2008 spring track season. Up to this point, UD's squad has set 19 personal bests in three meets and this past weekend at the Southern Cup Invitational, Chris and Matt Lemon made team history by becoming the first two Flyers ever to break 15 minutes in the same 5000 meter race.

Saturday's meet, held at George Rider Track on the campus of Miami University, was the team's best showing by far. In the 5000 meter run, Chris Lemon finished in 14:54.52 and was nine-tenths of a second off UD's team record, while brother Matt finished the race in 14:59.42 making it the first time in program history that two runners have broken 15 minutes in the same 5000 meter race.

Brad Boyd also ran his fastest in the 5000 meter finishing in 16:04.17.

In the 1500 meter, the Lemon's notched their two best-ever times in the event, Chris finished in 3:59.26 to take home gold and Matt completed the race in 4:03.40. Three other Flyers also bested their previous times: Brad Boyd (4:08.60), Billy Przybyla (4:10.51), and Tim Kaelin (4:13.15).

Cory McGoldrick and Thomas Anderson were the lone Flyers to compete in their events; McGoldrick competed in the 3000 meter steeplechase and turned up a personal best time of 10:05.83, while Anderson crossed at 2:01.67 in the 800 meter also setting a personal record.

The Flyers will compete in two more track meets before concluding the spring season. Dayton will return to Oxford, Ohio on April 12 for the Miami Invitational prior to travelling to Cincinnati, Ohio for the All-Ohio Outdoor Championships, April 18 thru April 19.
