CINCINNATI – University of Dayton’s Greg Roeth won the 10,000-meter run in a personal best time and eight other Flyers ran personal bests at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational hosted by university of Cincinnati March 30-31.

“We had a very competitive meet,” said UD Head Coach Rich Davis. “We had nine personal bests, an individual champion and a school record.”

Roeth, a redshirt senior, started the meet off right with a personal best time of 30:43.32 to win the 10,000-meter run and claim 10 points for the Flyers Friday. He beat runner-up, Marquette’s Connor Callahan by 11 seconds.

Dayton racked up 17 points in the 10,000-meters and three other UD runners also had personal best times. Junior Stephen Mackell took fourth place in 31:27.64 to grab five points. Junior Nate Addessi took seventh place in 32:23.70 for two points. Sophomore Tyler Roeth had a personal best time of 33:47.41.

Junior Jeremy Schiele broke a school record in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase and also took seventh place, adding two more points to Dayton’s total. He lowered the school record (which he also held) from 9:22 to 9:20.08.

Dayton had two personal bests in the 5,000-meter run; sophomore Eric Gruenbacher finished 11th in 15:02.26 and freshman Michael Russell ran it in 15:15.15

Sophomore Doug Norris was Dayton’s best finisher in 4:10.60 and freshman Kevin Kluesener was not too far behind in 4:11.31 in the 1,500-meter run. The Flyers also had two personal bests from sophomore Nick Fry in 4:12.04 and junior Derek Bornhorst in 4:12.50.

UD will be back in action Saturday, April 14 in the Don Kleinow Invitational hosted by Siena Heights University.
