STEFFENSMEIER IS IN THE LEAD AFTER FIRST TWO ROUNDS OF UK INVITE

The Flyers are three strokes back of Kentucky after two rounds of play.
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Playing in his first collegiate tournament, sophomore Andrew Steffensmeier is off to an impressive start.

Steffensmeier shot a one-under 71 in round one and a three-under 69 to tie for the lead after day one of the University of Kentucky Bluegrass Invitational.

After sitting out all of the 2010-11 campaign with an injury, Steffensmeier is tied with Marshall’s Bosten Miller with a 140 total.

Steffensmeier’s effort helped the Flyers hold second place after two rounds of play. UD is just three strokes back of Kentucky for the lead after Dayton shot a 294 in round one and a 286 in the second.

The Flyers got big contributions from their returnees as well.

Junior Sean Keating fired back-to-back rounds of 73 and is tied for 12th among individuals.

Junior Matt Buse rallied from a 78 in round one to card a 70 in the second round. Junior Brenten Blakeman opened with a 72 in round one, but had a 78 in the second 18 holes of play.

Senior Michael Oberschmidt rounded out the scoring with scores of 78 and 74.

The third and final round will take place on Sunday, Sept.18.
