DAYTON, Ohio
– University of Dayton Men’s Soccer Head Coach Dennis Currier became Dayton’s (3-11, 2-2 A-10) winningest coach in a 2-1 victory over the Richmond Spiders (2-10-1, 1-3 A-10) at Baujan Field on Sunday.

Currier’s squad helped him earn his 66th win as a Flyer, surpassing former head coach Roy Craig who had 65 wins from 1988-1995. In addition, Currier’s wins came in 130 games, which is 31 games less than Craig. Currier holds a .710 lifetime winning percentage with a combined record of 254-95-30.

The Flyers outshot the Richmond Spiders by a 24-14 margin in the contest. Dayton also held the advantage in corner kicks 6-2.

Freshman Ryan Lyn tallied his first collegiate goal thanks in part to a tough battle by sophomore Andres Acevedo to feed the ball to him in the goal mouth. Freshman Greg Enstone notched the game-winner, finishing a ball that was assisted from junior Evan McCreary and senior Jack Pearson.

Sophomore goalkeeper Alec Storm made six saves in the win. Richmond keeper Thomas Hand had four saves on two goals allowed.

A gritty effort from Acevedo led to Dayton’s first goal. Acevedo battled 1 v. 1 against a Richmond defender. After beating the defender around the outside, he made a sliding pass across the box to Lyn for his first collegiate goal in the 17th minute.

Moments later the Flyers threatened again on the doorstep as junior Michael Deyhle laced one from point-blank range that was stopped by Thomas Hand.

The Spiders got on board in the 66th minute on Sean Baker’s goal. Baker beat the defender on the break and scored opposite post to knot the game at one apiece.

UD took the lead in the second half on an excellent finish by Enstone. A long boot from Pearson gave way to a header through to Enstone from Evan McCreary. Enstone buried the ball from in front of the net for the game-winning goal in the 81st minute.

The Flyers hit the road for matchups against Saint Joseph’s and Temple on Oct. 21 and 23. Dayton will play four road contests before returning home for senior night against the Xavier Musketeers on Nov. 5 at Baujan Field. For more information visit www.DaytonFlyers.com.
