DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton Division of Athletics dedicated its baseball field to honor former player and long-time supporter Larry Woerner ‘76 and his wife Rosemari today. The baseball facility was christened Woerner Field at Time Warner Cable Stadium to honor the Woerner’s dedication and support of the University.

“When we first began working on a baseball stadium project Larry Woerner was there from the beginning,” UD Vice-President and Director of Athletics Tim Wabler said. “The corporate and personal support that followed was in response to Larry and Rosemari’s generosity. Their continued significant support of the Athletics Division, as well as the College of Arts and Sciences, make it very appropriate for the University to recognize them in this manner.”

Woerner played baseball at Dayton with Wabler as a four-year pitcher for the Flyers and graduated from the University in 1976 with a degree in mathematics, summa cum laude. After earning a graduate degree from the University of Iowa, Woerner parlayed his education and athletic experiences into a prestigious business career.

In 1982, Woerner co-founded MW-de Montigny Woerner Ltda., based in Sao Paulo, Brazil. His firm subsequently grew to be the largest benefits and human resources consulting firm in Latin America. In 1993 his company merged with New York-based Mercer Inc. Woerner currently holds the title of chief human resources officer and global head of regions with Mercer.

Through their faithful generosity Larry and Rosemari have made a difference at the University of Dayton by way of financial support for the Division of Athletics and scholarships.

The Woerner’s made significant gifts to athletic projects and scholarships to the University beginning in 2001. A significant leadership commitment was made to the baseball stadium project – what is now Time Warner Cable Stadium – in 2003. Numerous contributions of the Woerner’s have gone to the College of Arts & Sciences – which he serves as a member of the advisory council – and also to athletic and academic scholarships.
