NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - University of Dayton senior volleyball player
Shayne Brown was named the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week as announced Monday by the conference office. This is the first weekly honor for the senior from Lakewood, Colo.
George Washington freshman Chidima Osuchukwu was named the league's Rookie of the Week. Duquesne sophomore Taylor Lockett and VCU junior Janelle Sykes shared the A-10 Defensive Player of the Week award.
Brown led the Flyers to a split week with 4.00 kills per set, tallying double-digit kills in both matches. An outside hitter from Lakewood, Colo., she posted a match-high 13 kills while adding six digs and three blocks in Dayton's sweep of Fordham on Friday. On Sunday, Brown recorded her first career double-double with a career-high 19 kills and a career-high 13 digs at Rhode Island. She hit .267 for the week and averaged 2.38 digs per set while also recording four blocks.
The Flyers return home this weekend for a two-match set at Frericks Center. UD will play host to Fordham Friday at 7 p.m. for Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night and on Sunday Dayton will welcome Rhode Island for a 1 p.m. match for "Think Pink" Night.
