NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - University of Dayton volleyball senior
Megan Campbell has been named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week in the league's last round of weekly honors as announced by the conference office on Monday. This is Campbell's fourth weekly honor this season and the ninth of her career.
Duquesne junior Arielle Love and Saint Louis freshman Mallory Dillon were named the league's Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week respectively.
The league's leading blocker, Campbell averaged 1.57 blocks/set in two wins for the Flyers over the weekend. The middle blocker from Versailles, Ohio, had five blocks and nine kills while committing only one error in 14 attempts for a .571 percentage in Friday's sweep over George Mason. In Sunday's 3-1 win over George Washington on her senior day, Campbell recorded six blocks, including one solo, to go with 16 kills (16-1-32) while hitting .469 for the match. She scored 4.86 points per set, averaged 3.57 kills per set and tallied three service aces on the weekend.
Dayton will be heading to Washington, D.C., on Thursday to take part in the 2013 Atlantic 10 Volleyball Championship Nov. 22-24 at George Washington's Charles E. Smith Center. The fifth-seeded Flyers will square off against No. 4 Saint Louis Friday evening at 5 p.m. in a quarterfinal match-up.
Duquesne is the top seed for the A-10 Championship and the winner of the six-team championship will receive the Atlantic 10's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Tickets to the championship are available at the Smith Center box office. Every match of the 2013 Volleyball Championship will be streamed live for free on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network.
