Dayton moves to 2-1 on the season while Missouri State improves to 2-1 on the year as well.
Campbell led the Flyers with 12 kills while Krafka tallied 20 digs on the night. Sophomore Jenna Jendryk set 33 assists and junior Isolde Hannan recorded a match-high seven blocks at the net.
Sophomore Alaina Turner's kill set the score at 10-6 in favor of the Flyers to open the match and the lead would be 12-8 after a kill from sophomore Jill Loairs. The advantage stretched to six, 17-11, after another strong swing from Turner and a Bear attacking error tacked on another point. The Flyers led by as many as eight in the first frame and held set point at 24-16 before sophomore Angel Agu tallied the solo block on another Bear attacking error.
The second set remained close through the early going and UD three, 8-5, on a kill from Campbell. The momentum shifted after a Flyer ball handling error and the Bears went up 15-11 on an assisted block. The Missouri State lead was six, 20-14, sending Dayton into a timeout. After a 4-1 Flyer run, it was the Bears' turn to call for a break with the score set at 21-18 in favor of MSU. Out of the timeout, UD cut its deficit to two, 22-20, but was not able to overcome it. Missouri State took the second frame, 25-21, to even the match at one set apiece.
The Flyers scored the first two points of the third set before the Bears rattled off three straight to take over the lead. After three ties, MSU started to pull away and jumped ahead four, 10-6. The Bears led by as many as seven late in the set and were able to hold the advantage for a 25-20 set-three victory.
Missouri State held the slim 8-7 lead in the fourth set but put together four straight points to take the five-point, 12-7 advantage. Dayton pulled within three, 14-11, on a Brown service ace, but was again in the hole, 18-12, after a MSU kill. The Bears continued to string together rallies and held match-point at 24-16 as Kaitlin Jaeger sealed the win with a kill.
The Bears were led by Jaeger and Kayla Walton with 14 kills apiece while Ashley Mason passed a match-high 23 digs.
Dayton returns to action next weekend when it travels to Athens, Ohio, for the Ohio Invitational Sept. 6-7. First serve between the Flyers and the North Carolina Tar Heels is set for 10 a.m. Friday at OU's Convocation Center.
