DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton Office of Academic Services for Student-Athletes, in conjunction with the Office of the Provost, hosted its eighth-annual Scholar-Athlete Awards Reception Monday evening at Kennedy Union Ballroom on campus. Senior women's soccer player Juliana Libertin and senior men's golfer Andrew Steffensmeier were awarded the Presidential Scholar-Athlete Award and women's cross country was presented with the OASSA Academic Cup.

The Presidential Scholar Athlete Award is designed to be the most prestigious award presented at the annual OASSA Scholar-Athlete Awards Reception. It recognizes two student-athletes, one male and one female, who have demonstrated academic excellence, qualities of leadership, and service to the University of Dayton community.

Libertin, a senior midfielder from Uniontown, Ohio, is a two-time NSCAA Scholar All-American, a 2012 CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-American and a three-time CoSIDA All-District Academic Team selection (2011-2013). She is also a three-time Academic All-Ohio selection and she is also a three-time NSCAA All-Region selection (2011-2013). Libertin was named the 2013 Atlantic 10 Midfielder of the Year after notching seven goals and 16 assists. This season she was the NCAA's active career leader in assists and finished with 43. She was named First Team All-Atlantic 10 and also selected to the A-10 All-Championship Team. She is a three-time First Team A-10 selection. Libertin is an exercise science major and carries a 3.685 cumulative grade point average.

Steffensmeier, a Columbus, Ohio, native and 2013-14 men's golf team captain, led the team this past fall with a career-low 73.71 stroke average as one of three Flyers to compete in all 17 rounds of competition. He carded a team-low and career-low-tying 68 at the Marshall Invitational to open 2013 and fired a 71-73 at UD's Fall Invitational a ninth-place finish. Steffensmeier has received the President's Education Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence (2010), earned mention on the Capital One First Team All-Academic Regional Team (2013), was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team, and has been awarded the Trustee's Merit Scholarship, Szabo Award for Service Learning, GAR Foundation Honors Scholarship and has been inducted into the Golden Key International Honour Society. Steffensmeier is a pre-medicine major and carries a 3.934 cumulative grade point average.

Also recognized were the 14 other Presidential Scholar-Athlete nominees: Katherine Boeckman (women's tennis), Shayne Brown (volleyball), Nicole Cargill (women's cross country), Patrick Dyer (football), Andrew Eckrich (men's cross country), Andrea Hoover (women's basketball), Joshua Maylon (men's tennis), Haley Murrell (rowing), Jonathan Nelson (men's soccer), Devin Oliver (men's basketball), Margaret Prokop (women's golf), Robert Sunderman (baseball), Noelle Tazioli (track & field) and Dana Trotta (softball).

Nelson was also recognized with the Rev. Charles L. Collins Outstanding Citizenship Award, which recognizes an individual student-athlete who has demonstrated outstanding citizenship. Nelson is the first two-time winner of this award. Tazioli was honored with the Charles R. Kendall Memorial Award, which recognizes an individual student-athlete who had demonstrated achievement in academic and athletic effort. Brown earned the Ann E. Meyers Award of Excellence recognizing an individual student-athlete who has demonstrated achievement in academic and athletic effort in women's basketball or volleyball. The second-annual Flying Right Award was presented to men's tennis senior Enzo Milano for a student-athlete whose attitude, character and work ethic best reflects the mission of the OASSA.

The OASSA Academic Cup, presented to the team with the highest cumulative grade point average combined over the 2013 spring and fall semesters, was given to women's cross country.

The UD All-Academic Team, whose membership includes the student-athlete on each team with the highest GPA on the team, was announced. It consists of Kirsten Bartlett (softball), Brown (volleyball), Cargill (women's cross country), Dyer (football), Eckrich (men's cross country), Hoover (women's basketball), Libertin (women's soccer), Maylon (men's tennis), Murrell (rowing), Nelson (men's soccer), Oliver (men's basketball), Prokop (women's golf), Steffensmeier (men's golf), Sunderman (baseball), Tazioli (track & field) and Trotta (softball).

Additionally, 25 student-athletes with 4.00 GPA's were recognized along with the 187 student-athletes with grade points averages of 3.5 or better.
