DAYTON, Ohio - University of Dayton volleyball head coach Tim Horsmon has announced the addition of two more players to the 2016 roster. Sarah Blowers (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) and Julia Brown (Westerville, Ohio/St. Francis de Sales) will be Flyer freshmen in the fall.
Sarah Blowers, a 5-5 libero/defensive specialist from Pittsford, N.Y., played her prep career at Pittsford Sutherland High School. She was a member of the Knights' four-time Section V Championship squad and as named to the 2015 All-Tournament Team. Blowers was honored as a Max Prep Player of the Week eight times during her senior season and finished her career at Sutherland with 751 kills, 1,075 digs and 211 aces. "Sarah is going to be a great fit into our program, she is a great teammate and a natural leader," commented Horsmon. "Every coach that we have talked to about her raves about her strong character and that she is one of their favorite people/players they have ever been around and coached. From a skill perspective, Sarah is a very smooth serve receiver who sees the ball well which makes this aspect of her game look easy. She is very athletic and moves well on the court. Sarah is also a very strong student, and I think will be a great representative of our University and program."
Julia Brown, a 5-6 libero/defensive specialist from Westerville, Ohio, was a four-time All-League player at St. Francis de Sales High School. She was named to the All-State roster her senior season and helped lead the Stallions to a 19-2 overall record and the program's fourth-consecutive CCL Championship. "Julia is a competitor," Horsmon said. "She is exactly the type of player that you want in her position and brings great energy to the court, along with being a great teammate. She has a great personality and will immediately be a positive influence on this campus. She reads well and has a natural platform. Julia has a quiet platform, still upper body, and a solid base, which are all great foundational pieces for a great serve receiver at this level. This, in addition to her quickness, have us very excited for Julia to get here."
Blowers and Brown will join five other incoming freshmen in the fall of 2016: Jordan Albarran (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville), Olivia Dubay (Lake Elsinore, Calif./Our Lady of the Mountain), Jamie Peterson (West Liberty, Ohio/West Liberty-Salem), Sierra Pla (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia) and Brooke Westbeld (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont)
