Campbell Is Dayton's All-Time Leading Goal Scorer

Ashley Campbell
DAYTON, Ohio – Former University of Dayton women's soccer star Ashley Campbell has been selected as UD's NCAA Woman of the Year. She is one of eight nominees from the Atlantic 10 Conference.

Dayton's all-time leading goal scorer, Campbell amassed several awards during her four years with the Flyers. She led the Flyers to a 2013 A-10 Regular Season Championship and the 2014 A-10 Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament berth.

Some of her top highlights include:

•  Two-time Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year
•  Four-time A-10 All-Conference selection (including three years as a first teamer)
•  Two-time NSCAA Division I Women's All-Mid-Atlantic Region selection
•  Named one of the top 30 players for the 2015 Senior CLASS Award
•  Broke UD's women's soccer record for career goals with 63
•  Named Academic All-Ohio for three consecutive seasons
•  Member of the U-20 Canadian Women's National Team that was a 2014 FIFA World Cup quarterfinalist (Campbell played in all four matches and started vs. Finland)
•  She is also a three-time Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award winner

Campbell also participated in several community events with the Flyers:

•  Since 2012 she participated in Christmas on Campus
•   For two years she volunteered with Top Soccer, teaching and playing soccer with special needs children
•  She helped with the annual "Kicks for Kids" event in 2013, teaching soccer to special needs children
•  Campbell also walked in many Breast Cancer awareness events with her teammates
•  For two seasons, Campbell and the Flyers sponsored a "Green Dot" match to provide awareness and prevention of sexual assault
•  They also participated in the Anti-Bullying Rally in Dayton, Ohio
•  Campbell also volunteered at the Flyer 5K fundraising race

Each candidate was chosen by her institution for being an outstanding student-athlete with robust academic success, a strong athletic resume, while sustaining active leadership in her community. The A-10's Council of Senior Woman Administrators will select from the eight candidates the nominee(s) who will represent the Atlantic 10 Conference in the 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year program.

All conference nominees are forwarded to the Woman of the Year selection committee, which chooses the top 30 honorees – 10 from each division.

From the top 30, the selection committee determines the top three nominees from each division and announces the top nine finalists in September. The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics then chooses from among those nine to determine the 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year.

The 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year winner will be announced, and the Top 30 honorees celebrated, at the annual award ceremony on Oct. 16 in Indianapolis.

One of the most prestigious NCAA awards, the NCAA established the Woman of the Year Award in 1991 to celebrate the achievements of women in intercollegiate athletics. Now in its 26th year, this unique award recognizes the athletic achievements of outstanding young women, as well as their academic achievements, community service and leadership. To be eligible, these women must have competed and earned a varsity letter in an NCAA-sponsored sport and must have completed eligibility in their primary sport.
