University of Dayton sophomore Chris Johnson has been named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week for his play in the Flyer wins over Ball State and Duquesne in UD’s A-10 season opener.

The 6-6 forward from Columbus Brookhaven High School averaged 15.5 points and 15.0 rebounds in two games, including the first 20-20 game at UD in 12 years.  Johnson had career highs of 26 points and 20 rebounds in leading the Flyers to a 78-72 overtime win over Duquesne on Saturday. 

Johnson scored 13 of UD’s final 23 points of the game in the final six minutes and 16 seconds of regulation and five minutes of overtime. The last Dayton player to have a 20-20 game was Ryan Perryman, who had 26 and 20 against Duquense on February 25, 1998. 

There have been just seven 20-20 games turned in by a Dayton player at UD Arena since the Arena opened in 1969. Ken May, George Janky, Tom Crosswhite, J.D. Grigsby and Joe Fisher all did it prior to Perryman and Johnson, but Johnson’s is only the second in the last 35 years.
 
It was the first 20-20 game this season by any Atlantic 10 player. Johnson is also only the third player in Division I to score at least 25 points and grab 20 rebounds this season. Artsiom Parakhouski of Radford and Jamine Peterson of Providence are the other two.

Johnson is second on the team in scoring (13.2), and leads in rebounding (7.4), FT% (.818, 27-33), 3-pt. FG’s made (28) and steals (17).

Johnson shared this week’s A-10 Player of the Week award with Xavier sophomore Jordan Crawford.

Dayton has two A-10 games this week, both on the road. The Flyers will play Fordham at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday in the second game of a doubleheader that begins at 7:00 p.m. ET.  UD will then return to southwestern Ohio for a Saturday game at Xavier that will begin at 11:00 a.m. ET.
