Dayton Flyers

The Dayton Flyers look to close spring season with a flourish as UD heads to the 2010 Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Golf Championship.

UD will participate in a three-day, three-round event beginning Friday, April 16 from The Homestead Gardens course in Hot Springs, Va. Fans will be able to follow the tournament with live scoring at caasports.com.

Last year UD placed in eighth and enter 8th out of 10 teams in the conference Golfstat rankings heading into this season’s championship.

Dayton will send seniors Katie Dempsey, Katie Gallagher and Cari DeAngelis, along with junior Julie Pouliquen and sophomore Clara Ang.

The group of five playing at this year’s CAA Championship has been UD’s top golfers this season in terms of stroke average. Ang leads the team averaging 80.9 strokes per round followed by Gallagher (81.3), Dempsey (82.7), Pouliquen (83.1) and DeAngelis (83.2).

In CAA Championship history, Gallagher, Pouliquen, Ang and Dempsey have played in this tournament before. Gallagher and Dempsey are also the only two UD players to have competed in this event in the previous three years as well.

This will be the eighth season the Flyers have participated in the CAA Tournament. UD's best showing came back in the 2004 spring campaign when Dayton placed fifth overall.

Other programs participating in the 2009 CAA Tournament include Georgia State, Hofstra, James Madison, UNC Wilmington, Old Dominion, Richmond, Towson, William & Mary and Xavier.

Throughout the 2009-10 campaign, Dayton has played consistently between the fall and spring seasons. As a team, UD had a 324.22 stroke average during the fall. In the spring the team’s stroke average is slightly lower at 322.67.
