RED AND WHITE TIE IN ANNUAL SCRIMMAGE

Andres Acevedo completed his first training camp with the Flyers

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton men’s soccer team officially concluded its preseason on Wednesday night with the annual Red/White Game at Baujan Field. The teams battled to a draw in the contest.

“Overall I thought that we had a successful preseason,” Dayton head coach Dennis Currier said. “There were a lot of things that we had to focus on with such a young squad. We felt like we got a lot better with our team camaraderie.”

The Red Team registered 14 shot attempts in the contest. The final battle, which officially ended the Flyers’ preseason gave veterans and rookies a chance to squeeze out one more exhibition on Baujan Field.

“Preseason went well. It was a good time for a lot of the new freshmen to get assimilated into the team,” redshirt sophomore Michael Deyhle said. “It allowed the returners to demonstrate the kind of work ethic it takes at the collegiate level. A lot of the upperclassmen stepped up and showed them what it took to make it at the next level. The key for this season will be getting to know each other’s strengths.”

The Red/White Game also gave newcomers a chance to continue to pick up the speed of the collegiate game.

“This preseason was one of the hardest that I have ever had,” freshman midfielder Andres Acevedo said. “Once you start catching up to it, you start getting fit and become more prepared every day. As soon as you step on the field you feel like a new person and you feel like you are faster and stronger. “

Dayton travels to Cincinnati to open the regular season in one week on Wednesday, Sept. 1 against the Bearcats at 7:00 p.m. The Flyers will then host IPFW in their home opener on Sept. 3 at 8:00 p.m. as part of the Dayton Marriott Classic.
