DAYTON, Ohio
– Over 4,000 area schoolchildren, parents and teachers packed in to UD Arena to cheer the University of Dayton Flyers to a 66-58 victory over the UMass Minutewomen on Dayton’s annual Math Day matinee game.

After being pushed to overtime in their past two matchups, the Flyers were able to secure a win in regulation to increase UD’s win total to 16 on the year. Dayton is now 16-8 and 7-3 in the Atlantic 10.

Justine Raterman led the Flyers with 12 points on the day. Raterman also added six rebounds for UD. Elle Queen was Dayton’s top rebounder with four offensive and three defensive rebounds for a total of seven. Queen also had three assists and a steal.

Kayla Moses extended Dayton’s lead 21-12 on a mid-range jumper with just over nine minutes remaining in the half.

With 2:12 remaining in the first half, Raterman made a nifty spin move to lay the ball up and give the Flyers a 29-23 lead. Moments later she would hit another bucket on the fast break to increase the score to 31-23. Dayton took a 31-25 lead into the half.

Kari Daugherty extended Dayton’s lead to 10, 38-28 early in the second half. Daugherty spun and hit a nice jump shot from mid-range. Moments later Laylor added another two points to UD’s surplus.

Lalor worked around multiple defenders to score a tough layup giving UD a 43-34 advantage with 13:20 remaining in the game.

UMass’ Megan Zullo helped the Minutewomen get back into the game. Zullo hit a three-pointer with 8:15 remaining in the game to pull UMass within four of UD.

Cerie Mosgrove brought UMass within one point of tying the game after drawing a foul on her layup. Moments later Sam MacKay hit a three-pointer to give UD a little breathing room, 62-58.

From that point on the Flyers controlled the tempo, beating the Minutewomen 66-58.
