FOUR PLAYERS COMMIT TO DAYTON BASEBALL

Coach Vittorio added four players to his 2012 roster on Friday.
July 7, 2011

DAYTON, Ohio – University of Dayton baseball added four players to its 2012 roster after right-handed pitcher Denton Sagerman, right-handed pitcher Parker Schrage, right-handed pitcher Kyle Coenen and catcher Kuris Duggan each committed to the program, Head Coach Tony Vittorio announced on Friday.

“With the graduation of three senior pitchers, and (Cameron) Hobson signing with the Seattle Mariners, we knew we needed to create depth as well as replace a starter within our pitching staff,” Vittorio said. “Adding Coenen, Schrage, and Sagerman we did that. With the departure of catcher (Danny) Welch behind the plate to the Oakland A's, Duggan allows us to continue to have a quality catcher who can really catch and throw.”

Denton Sagerman
Freshman – RHP – R/R – 6-2 – 190
Olmsted Falls, Ohio (Olmsted Falls HS)

Sagerman has been the ace of the Olmted Falls High School pitching staff since he was a sophomore – a season in which he garnered First Team All-Southwestern Conference honors. Denton led the Bulldogs to their first-ever OHSAA Division I State Tournament appearance in 2010. As a senior the 6-foot-2 right-handed pitcher struck out 45 in 41 1/3 innings pitched with a 4-2 record.

Sagerman was recently awarded the Southeastern Baseball Classic Scholarship in April and maintained a weighted GPA of 4.1. The Olmsted Falls native was also a First Team All-SWC honoree in football during his senior year and graduated as the Bulldogs’ all-time leader tackles.

Parker Schrage
Junior – RHP – R/R – 6-3 – 195
Madison College
Mount Calvary, Wis. (New Holstein HS)

Schrage held a combined 10-2 record on the mound in two seasons with the Madison College WolfPack. The Mount Calvary, Wis., native made 14 appearances last season with five complete-games, 41 strikeouts and a 3.28 ERA. Schrage earned All-State honors as a senior at New Holstein High School.

Kuris Duggan
Junior – C – R/R – 6-0 – 180
South Suburban College
Flossmoor, Ill. (Homewood-Flossmoor HS)

Considered to be an elite defensive catcher, Duggan recently led South Suburban College to its eighth Division I NJCAA Region IV Championship in 2011. During his sophomore campaign, Duggan hit .241 with 16 runs scored through 36 games played. The Flossmoor, Ill., native holds the IHSA state record for saves in a season (9) while at Homewood-Flossmoor High School. Duggan will play in the Midwest Collegiate League All-Star Game this Tuesday, July 12, as a member of the Southland Vikings summer league team.

Kyle Coenen
Junior – RHP – R/R – 6-6 – 215
Madison College
Franklin, Wis. (Franklin HS)

Coenen spent one season with Madison College before committing to Dayton. In his sophomore season the Franklin, Wis., native held a 3.79 ERA through 13 appearances and 46 strikeouts. As a junior at Franklin High School, Coenen was an All-State honoree.
