LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Dayton Flyers (0-1-0) dropped their season opener to the Kentucky Wildcats (1-0-0) 2-0 on Friday at the UK Soccer Complex.
Sophomore goalkeeper Alec Storm made six saves and the team made three additional saves on 11 shots on goal.
Kentucky opened the scoring in the 30th minute with passes from Jacob Kemper and C.J. Tappel to Tyler Riggs who laced the ball into the left side of the net.
Tappel scored in the 32nd minute for the Wildcats to take a two goal lead. Tappel knocked in the ball near post on a corner kick from Charlie Pettys.
The Flyers return to action on Sept. 2nd against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the IU Hoosier Classic at 5 p.m. ET. Dayton will also play tournament host Indiana on Sept. 4 at 2 p.m.
