Dayton Flyers

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – University of Dayton women’s cross country brought home a pair of weekly honors from the Atlantic 10 Conference on Wednesday as Elissa Mason was named the Women’s Performer of the Week and freshman Katie Ollier was named A-10 Women’s Rookie of the Week.

Mason, a senior from Greenwood, Ind., led the way for Dayton in the Flyer 5K Challenge as five Dayton runners placed in the Top 10, including first, second, and third. Mason finished the race with a 5K personal-record time of 18:15.3.

In her collegiate debut, Ollier, a freshman from Dayton, contributed to UD’s success as she posted a time of 19:08.3 on her way to recording an eighth-place finish at the Flyer 5K Challenge.

As a team, the Flyers team claimed the season-opening 2011 meijer Flyer 5K Challenge title after three Flyer harriers took the top three individual spots.

Duquesne’s Jim Spisak was the Men’s Performer of the Week and Richmond’s Tim Becker was the Men’s Rookie of the Week.

The Flyers return to action on Sept. 16 at the National Catholic Invitational in South Bend, Ind. Last season the Flyers placed second among 35 teams in the National Catholic Invitational.
