KEATING, STEFFENSMEIER EARN A-10 WEEKLY HONORS

This is Sean Keating's second career A-10 weekly award.
The Atlantic 10 named Dayton Flyers Sean Keating the Player of the Week and Andrew Steffensmeier the Rookie of the Week after their efforts at the University of Kentucky Bluegrass Invitational.

The Flyers finished second out of 15 teams at the University of Kentucky Bluegrass Invitational last weekend thanks in part to Keating and Steffensmeier’s efforts.

Keating’s 70 in round three matched a collegiate career-best and his third-place finish was his best since he finished in second at the 2010 Detroit Titans Invitational. Keating recently competed in the 2011 U.S. Amateur Championship.

In his first collegiate tournament, Steffensmeier tied for 13th after carding rounds of 71-69-79 at the University of Kentucky Bluegrass Invitational. After sitting out all of the 2010-11 campaign with a torn ACL, Steffensmeier was tied for the lead after the first two rounds of the tournament. His second round 69 was the lowest individual score on a Flyer team that finished in second place.

“Those two have worked really hard,” said head coach Gip Hoagland. “Especially Andrew because he has not played in a team event since high school. He had to get his knee back in shape and be patient. Meanwhile, Sean has improved from day one. It’s an example of how well he’s played.”

This is the second time in Keating's career he has been named A-10 Player of the Week. The last time occurred when he was named the A-10 Player and Rookie of the Week on April 19, 2010.

Keating shared the weekly award with Xavier's Sebastian MacLean.

Dayton's next tournament will be at the Cardinal Invitational in Louisville, Ky. Hosted by the University of Louisville, the tournament will take place Sept. 26-27.
