Biography
2014: The forward played in 21 games and started 13 of them in her senior season… Recorded two goals and two assists for six points on the year… Of her 15 shots, 11 of them were on goal, good for a .733 shots-on-goal percentage.
2013: Played in 19 games and started one as a junior... Scored two goals against St. Bonaventure (11/08) in the A-10 semifinal.
2012: Saw action in all 20 games this season...Had her first goal of the season in the 5-1 win against UTSA (08/19)... Ended the season with 4 goals and 4 assists.
2011: Played in all 23 games… Scored her first goal in 2-1 win against Northwestern (08/28)… Scored her second goal against Wisconsin (09/02)… Tallied her first assist in 3-1 win against Cal Poly (09/21)… Second assist in 3-0 win against Loyola Chicago (08/26)… Finished the season with 13 goals and five assists… Totaled 62 shots throughout her season… Named 2011 Second Team and All-Rookie Team in the Atlantic 10 … Member of the 2011 All-Championship Team in the Atlantic 10... Named to the All-Ohio Team... Smigel earned Rookie of the Week three times in the 2011 Atlantic 10 Fall Sports Honor Roll… She was a member of the 2011 Preseason Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team.
Coach Tucker’s Take on Kelsey: “Kelsey Smigel is a team player and outstanding competitor who has the gift of being an outstanding ‘finisher’. Kelsey has great experience at the highest youth levels, and with much success. She will also contribute immediately in the attack. She has a great “motor” and will give opponents fits in the attacking third.”
Prior to UD: Led Walsh Jesuit to a Division I State Championship in 2010 and also to the ESPN Rise National Championship...she finished as the school’s second all-time leading scorer...was the Akron Beacon Journal Player of the Year in 2009 and the Cleveland Plain Dealer Player of the Year in 2010...she was named an NSCAA All-American in 2009, while also earning First Team All-State honors...earned Second Team All-State accolades in 2008...she was a three-time Akron Beacon Journal All-Star (2007, 2008, 2010)...in addition to the state title in 2010, she led Walsh Jesuit to a Regional finalist finish in 2008 and a State semifinalist finish in 2007 and 2009...led Cleveland Futbol Club to the Ohio North State Cup Championship from 2007-2009...her club team was also Region II Finalists in 2007 and 2008 Region II Champions...they were the Midwest League Spring Champions from 2007-09 and part of the Youth Soccer National League in 2008 and 2009...her ODP involvement includes the Interregional Game and adidas ESP Camp in 2008 and 2009.
Personal: Daughter of Beverly and Butch Smigel...has two older siblings, Tyler and Jordan, and two younger siblings, Alyson and Cory...Born on Nov. 14, 1992...Major: physical therapy.
